The Essence of Esouira Market – An Abstract Perspective

In this abstract painting, I’ve sought to distill the soul of Esouira’s market into bold forms, vibrant colors, and dynamic textures. The chaotic harmony of the market—its sights, sounds, and emotions—is expressed through sweeping brushstrokes and layered compositions.

Each shade and line conveys a story: the warm oranges and yellows reflect the spices and the sun-soaked ambiance, and intricate patterns hint at the architecture and woven goods. Rather than replicating the market visually, this piece invites viewers to feel its energy and essence, where tradition meets vitality in every corner.

This painting is a celebration of movement, connection, and the living pulse of Esouira’s cultural heart.

Blue Green Eyes

This 2020 painting portrays a young woman with striking blue-green eyes, brought to life through vivid and expressive brushstrokes. Her eyes, the focal point of the piece, convey a sense of calmness, depth, and mystery, inviting the viewer into a contemplative journey. The artwork leaves her story intriguingly open to interpretation, allowing each viewer to connect uniquely with her enigmatic presence. The piece measures 50×70 cm.”

Lisa

I created a watercolor sketch of an abstract portrait inspired by a young lady. The piece captures her essence through fluid, expressive strokes and vibrant hues. The abstraction allows the colors to meld seamlessly, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow that suggests her lively spirit. Soft washes of blue and pink convey a sense of calm and warmth, while bold splashes of deeper tones add mystery and depth. The minimalist details let her personality shine through, inviting the viewer to interpret the emotions and story behind the portrait.”

Portrait of Hanna

Meet Hanna Dejene from Ethiopia. We crossed paths in Addis Ababa during my recent trip, and since then, she has become a good friend. The artwork was done with acrylic on canvas and measures 100×100 cm.

Hope

The sight of this young boy in a Sudanese refugee camp left a profound impact on me. The emotion captured in the boy’s eyes tells a poignant story of resilience and vulnerability.
I used colors and textures in his face to effectively convey the harshness of the environment while contrasting with the humanity of the subject.

I tried to highlight specific elements, such as his expression and posture, to further amplify the narrative.

Sad women

This sketch was not just an image—it became a memory frozen in time, a tribute to a connection that was brief yet profoundly felt. To this day, when I look at it, I feel the echo of her sadness and the quiet strength that lay beneath.

I enjoy sketching all the time—sometimes using just a pencil, other times with pastel chalks, and occasionally with watercolor. This painting is one of those.
